NG1 greatly simplifies the expansion and integration of avionics I/O with your computing system. In its basic mode, it reliably converts avionics protocol data (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, serial, and avionics discretes) to and from Ethernet in real time without the need for custom code. This not only saves time and money, but reduces system SWaP by eliminating wiring runs.

Mission System I/O Expansion
The Ballard NG1 from Astronics reduces I/O complexity of mission computers by providing simple remote I/O expansion over Ethernet. it provides out-of-the-box simplicity for converting and streaming avionics data over an Ethernet backbone for distributed control or remote I/O applications, reducing costs and speeding deployment on C4ISR systems. I/O can be converted to or from Gigabit Ethernet in real time without the need for custom code.
MIL-STD-1553 to Ethernet
The NG1 Series includes up to 2 dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553C channels (BC/RT/MON, single- or multi-function).
ARINC 429 to Ethernet
The NG1 Series includes up to 7 ARINC 429 channels (6 Receive, 1 Transmit).
Serial to Ethernet
The NG1 Series includes up to 2 ports of Serial RS-232/422/485.
Discrete I/O to Ethernet
The NG1 Series includes up to 4 programmable discrete I/O and up to 4 input only discrete I/O.
Specific I/O protocol mix depends upon COTS model chosen. Maximum I/O values shown, values are reduced when ordering more than one type.

Cybersecurity Capabilities

These include security features resident in the Linux OS, ARM Trust Zone, discrete inputs for write protection of base non-volatile memory, and a sanitize discrete input to wipe all storage that is not write-protected.
